Transport Options
The Hong Kong Airport boasts a very efficient transport system.
However, before examining the actual transport itself, there are a few things that every traveller should bear in mind:
It is worth considering purchasing an Octopus card before exiting the airport for use on public transport. These can be purchased as you exit the baggage claim area upon your arrival. Of course, these are readily available throughout Hong Kong as well; however, this bit of foresight might save you some headache after a long flight. This card can be used to pay for most public transport, and as the buses and trams require exact change, this saves having to carry many loose coins around.
Octopus Card
- - The Octopus card is a “stored value card”… in its own way, it can be viewed as an electronic cash card.
- The Octopus card can be used on most public transport.
- It costs HK$ 150; of which HK$ 50 is the deposit and the additional HK$ 100 is credit to be used. If this amount is not fully used, the card can be returned and the balance refunded.
- Apart from transportation purposes, the Octopus card can also be used in many convenience stores, such as 7-Elevens, fast food restaurants and even Starbucks and McDonald’s.
Of course, this all depends on how much public transport you will be expecting to use during your stay in Hong Kong. Once you’ve decided on this…
The Airport’s Transportation Centre is located in front of the main terminal building after exiting the arrival hall. The three main options; the Airport Express train, buses, and taxis are all available from this point. Browse through each of these below.
